Yesterday started off like any other day. I went to work in the morning. At lunch, Jenn and I met and ate together. Then at about 2:00, I started get a pain/ache in my shoulder. I was conscious of it but it wasn't TERRIBLY uncomfortable. I finished my day at work and headed to my mom's house. I was in DESPERATE need of a hair colouring…
So I drove to Mom's house. The pain was a bit more intense, but still 'handleable'. Mom got my hair coloured (and it looks wonderful if I do say so myself) and then we were sitting outside while the BBQ cooked our dinner. The tears were just streaming down my face. I was in AGONY. The pain was indescribable. Since the pain was INSIDE my shoulder, there was nothing I could do to make it feel better. Rubbing the shoulder didn't help. Ibuprofen didn't help. Crying didn't help. Not having a clue as to what it was didn't help either. We all initially thought it might be muscle related. However, I soon discovered that moving my arm around, up and down or whatever way I was moving it, didn't affect the pain at all - in a good way OR a bad way.
I couldn’t take the pain any longer. It was just HORRIBLE. Mark insisted on taking me to the hospital. I didn't want to go. It seemed silly…
We went.
I was in the waiting room for about 10 minutes before they took me in. They tested my blood pressure and it was THROUGH THE ROOF. Apparently that happens when you are in pain. They were thinking that I MIGHT have a blood clot in my lung. I don't know how to spell the words that they actually used. They kept asking me if I had had recent surgery, if I had been on a plane, if I had recently been on a long car ride or if I had had a history of blood clots.
I was in a bed quickly - Curtain 4. SEVEN vials of blood were quickly extracted, an ECG (I think - I get them mixed up with an EKG) was done. Chest x-rays and a visit from the doctor.
Then the waiting…
I must say that the time goes faster when you are in a bed in the ER rather then in the waiting room. Mark, luckily, has his Harry Potter book in the car so he got lots of reading done. I dosed in and out. They had given me something for the pain.
4 1/2 hours later, the tests came back and everything was fine. My blood pressure was back to normal and the pain, although not gone, had subsided significantly. I felt stupid...
The ER explained that they are just there to 'rule out the big things' and NOT to diagnose me. Since it wasn't any of the 'big things' they sent me home. I am going to have to follow up with my doctor to try and discover WHAT is wrong.
Today the pain is there, a dullish ache or so. Unless I inhale deeply, bend over, hiccup, burp, yawn, laugh or sneeze it is not too bad - I am aware of it, but it is 'dealable'.
I am starting to feel like I am falling apart...
Today when I went to pick up my prescription - an anti-inflammatory - just in case - this is what the 'package insert' read on the FIRST LINE: This drug may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines...
I am glad it is only RARELY FATAL!
So how was your Wednesday?

Well it sure was better than yours! That sounds just awful! Glad to hear it isn't any of the "serious" things. Hopefully your family doc can get things staightened out. Glad to hear you're feeling a little better today.
Wow, I'm sure it was all very scary! Glad you are a bit better and it wasn't anything super crazy.
Geez, woman...get better soon!
Holy Shit! That is scary! I'm glad you're alright though. Keep us posted! Since I worked for a chiropractor and acupuncturist for 9 years, I have to ask. Could it be nerves or muscular?
Yikes! I think mine was better than yours! I really hope you are okay!
Hope that you hear from your doctor soon about what the heck is up with you. You are a very busy woman with a very active social life and you have absolutely no time to be feeling so poorly, my friend. :)
Michelle - I hope you're OK and feeling better. I can't believe in the midst of all this you were trying to let me know we are out of review! Let us know you're OK.
Oh my gosh Michelle - glad it was nothing serious!! Do you think it might have anything to do with what you did to your elbow a while ago???
For the record, I'd like to say...'oy'.
Get better!!!
Cari
Poor Michelle! I hope you feel better soon and the pain disappears.
HUGS!
Keep smilin!
Wow friend! Hope you're able to get to the bottom of this quickly and that the intense pain doesn't come back again.
Take care, k? Praying for you.
Shoot. I hope that the intolerable pain stays away & that your docs figure out what is up so that it doesn't happen again. XO
Yikes Michelle - that sounds very scary. Not knowing is the worst. I hope your family doctor or a referral to a specialist can get things cleared up so you don't have to live with that kind of pain again. I guess the good news is that you looked like a million bucks at the ER with your new hair colouring. Gotta look on the bright side. :)

Oh Michelle! How scary!
I am glad you went to the Hospital! It is always best to air on the side of caution!!!
Hope your shoulder feels better soon!
Damn..... I'm glad it wasn't one of the big things.
It sucks.... I've had my share of stints in the ER as well. I too feel like I am just buying time until the next horrifying issue comes up.
sending you a hug...get it checked out asap
Oh, so that is what was going on. Holy crap. I wonder what it was? Growing pain? Glad they looked at your blood. Women on any hormones can get clots that turn into strokes.
Feel better.
Wow that was quite the day - I just keep sitting around feeling sorry for myself that I am out of a job and am bored out of my mind! My boring days seem not so bad now!
I hope everything is fine and your doctor can tell you what it was.
Glad your feeling a bit better!
Oh Michelle! That must've been very scary. I hope that is the last that you hear of the pain and I hope your doctor is able to figure out what's going on. We must be healthy when we travel to China (yeah, yeah, I know).
Oh I am so glad you are OK. Shoulder pain can be bad, but I am glad your's wasn't anything more sinister!
Whew, I got really scared reading your post.
Take care of you please!!!
Glad it wasn't anything on the "big things" list. Hope you're feeling better soon!
Oh, crap, Michelle! I'm sorry you had such a scare. I really hope it's nothing at all....please keep us posted.
Oh my word, you should go to see a doctor. Rarely fatal? That is nuts. For a second there I thought you were having a heart attack, but I guess not. I'm glad that the ER didn't find anything too serious.
Wow, that was really scary!! Glad everything turned out alright. Hearing "Could be a blood clot" would have given me a bloody heart attack.
I am really sorry, I hope things start to look up for you. I have had several scares with my blood pressure that ended up 4 times in the ER. It is not a comforting situation to say the least. My blood pressure is now regulated but I got very close scares.
Oh man! I have had a blood clot in the lung and leg, and it's no party. Lost my mom to that so it was a little scary reliving it myself. I can tell you this now that they ruled that out for you.
Pain like that must always be taken seriously. Also, with shoulder pain, for women often it can be referred cardiac pain. So glad they kept a close eye on you.
Are you sure you didn't dislocate the shoulder swinging from the bedroom light fixture?
And where is hair pic?
I know I'm late on this post, but I bet you I know what it is..... Go to an orthopedist and have him xray and then get an MRI of your NECK. That is EXACTLY how I felt when I had my bulging discs in my neck! And, there IS something that helps it: A Vicodin and laying down. That's it. Only thing that helped me. It will eventually go away, but don't ever have a chiropractor mess with your neck after that.... Check it out and see if that might be the problem!
Oh no! I hope you are feeling better and they find out what was wrong(and that it isn't serious).
What a scary unsettling day for you, I am so sorry.
I hope that everything works itself out!
On the brighter side, glad to hear mom gave you a great dye job.
YOUCH!
I hope you are feeling better! how scary.
