Montreal

AHHHH

What a GREAT weekend! On Friday afternoon, Mark and I hopped in the car and off we went to Montreal. We arrived 7 hours later at Doris and Dan's doorstep! It was a long journey, but worth the trip!

We had our greetings and hellos and it was time to catch up! It wasn't long before K1 & K2 arrived and Catherine. The gang was all together again!!

Our camera had been in the shop and we were so pleased that it was fixed and we received it back on Thursday before we went...we didn't take one picture - NOT ONE!!! The pictures that you will see are from D&D, the K's and Catherine (thanks for taking the pictures).

It was a late night of gabbing, catching up and of course, eating and drinking!!

Saturday morning came with more eating, gabbing and catching up!

D&D are great hosts and there is always so much food!

Saturday afternoon brought some shopping and then back home to prepare for the evening's festivities. We had some old friends joining us. Elisa, Jarrod, Thomas and Zoe along with Julie and Naomi! Hard to believe at this time last year they were waiting for their referrals and now they are complete families.

Even MORE friends joined us later in the evening and it was quite a house full!! We were able to meet some of D&D's friends that we had been hearing about and they were able to meet some of the people who's blog they 'stalk'!!

Zoe sharing her food with Naomi!

Dinner consisted of 'deep fried turkey' (among other things) prepared by the guys IN THE RAIN!! The most important thing - other then ensuring it was cooked - was to be positive that there was NO WATER TO HIT THE OIL!! There was success on all fronts. The turkey was delish!!

Saturday was a great day!! Stay tuned for pictures and an update of Sunday!!

For other 'versions' of the weekend and other photos - see this blog and this blog and this blog!!

Smoker Chick

I know I have spoken of “smoker chick” at work before. She spends too much time away from her desk and outside smoking. It frustrates me – ESPECIALLY when she is behind in her work and the boss asks me to help her!!! But that story is for another time…

Today’s story is about ‘smoker chick’ and being away from her desk. It is not just me who notices her absence. My other co-workers do as well. It is a sticky situation – it really is none of our business – it should be the supervisor who says something…he doesn’t see these things. SIGH….

So the other day, I was FRUSTRATED – she had already been gone from her desk fro 28 minutes – I happened to glance at my watch when she left. So I was composing an e-mail to a co-worker – he and I think along the same lines.

The e-mail went like this…She has been on her smoke break for 28 minutes already.

I GUESS I had HER on my mind when I was addressing the e-mail and I SENT IT TO HER!!!!

OMG – too late now…

When she got back to her desk, she asked – “What is this”. Now I had to make a quick decision – I chose to be adult about it (ignoring the bitchy e-mail to the co-worker complaining in the first place – lol)

I replied that I didn’t mean to send that to her, however, MANY people have noticed the amount of time that she is away from her desk – not just me. I told her that she should watch herself as people are starting to talk about it.

She tried to explain – I said I didn’t want to hear it.

She replied FINE! FINE! FINE! and she hasn’t spoken to me since then.

I am o.k. with the not talking to me part!!

**update** I should clarify that I used to smoke and take smoke breaks etc, but NEVER for 35 minutes (that was the total when she finally came back) and I didn't get behind on my work because of it AND - we are not talking about me - we are talking about SmokerChick!!

17 Months LID

Wow!! It has been 17 months since our file was logged into China - since we were "officially" in line! It has been 29 months since we started on this path...sigh...

I came across an e-mail the other day that we sent to our family and friends when we received our Provincial approval (July '06). We said in the e-mail that we were hoping to be in China by the end of 2007 to bring our daughter home... How WRONG were we???

I always get down and frustrated at this time of the month. It seems we are getting further and further behind - well doesn't seem - ARE - getting further and further behind...

I HOPE there is light at the end of the tunnel - but I am just not in a place that I can TRULY believe that right now...

Can it be true???

Apparently we are out of the Review Room!! We have not officially been informed by our agency, nor have they updated their website to say so, but EVERYONE out there in cyber world knows that it is true!!

OMG! I am in shock! It only too 16 3/4 months to get there!

What this means is that our file has been reviewed and scrutinized by the people in China and we have been found worthy. You can read more about it here.

Next step is the MATCHING ROOM! How exciting is that! Our file IS IN THE MATCHING ROOM!

There is still a LONG road ahead of us, but I am glad to report that we have taken another step in the right direction.

Congratulations to Dolores & Shawn who have also made it through!! PHEW!!!

Yesterday

It started out all so innocently…

We have a piece of furniture. We wanted it refinished. We made a call. A ‘guy’ came out to the house for a FREE ESTIMATE. He was to be there between 6:00 – 8:00. He drove in at 7:05pm

That is where things got...ODD. He sat in his car for about 5 minutes. Got out of his car, stood beside the car, got back in the car, got out of the car, took his ‘bag’ out of the car and FINALLY made it to our door.

He walked in and we told him that we were going in the basement and he should leave his shoes on. He said that something things get on the bottom of his shoes and he proceeded to lift up each foot so we could inspect the soles. He then took his coat off and HANDED it to Mark.

I was in the kitchen organizing dinner. We didn’t want to be eating while he was there, so when we saw him pull in, I started getting things ready – as a quote would only take about 10 or 15 minutes...right???

Well Joe – that was his name – was heading downstairs with Mark to see the chest of drawers. He first stopped in our living room and looked around. LOOKED AROUND and made COMMENTS!! What is up with that??

FINALLY he headed for the stairs and SLOWLY made his way down. Did I mention he was old? He was – VERY old – I cut him some slack…at first.

He gets to the bottom step and I am behind him. He takes one step and stops. Just stops. I am trapped. I can’t go anywhere. There is no space to go around him. He just STARES at the chest of drawers. Just stares.

I should also mention that Joe had a bad back. Mark had to carry his bag down the stairs for him...fine.

Joe FINALLY moved. Yet he still stared at the furniture. Then he started talking. He has a 21 year old daughter. She goes to Carleton University. They live in a 3 bedroom house. He lives in Oakville. He has a friend with the same last name as us – but spelled differently. He has a buddy who bought a golf course. He used to live in Elk Lake. His wife is taking the day off tomorrow. He is 77. He still has a mortgage. Wife still works too, etc, etc, etc...

By this time – I couldn’t take it anymore. I went upstairs. I could still hear him talking. Mark asked if he could quote and Joe said – don’t rush me. I have to look at this still. Yet – Joe kept talking and talking and talking…

Then he FINALLY got out his glasses – or wanted to...they were in his coat. Mark ran up to get the coat. Joe kept talking. Then the glasses were on and then the staring resumed. He guessed that the chest was older then he was. I really don’t know if it is or not, but it is old.

Then he needed a tape measure. He couldn’t find it in his bag. His wife must have taken it out to use it. She does that sometimes. We went and got one of our tape measures. Mark had to measure. Joe has a bad back – can’t bend over.

Joe was unsure – had to make a phone call.

He has now been there for 35 minutes and NOTHING – no quote, no estimate NOTHING!

Mark came upstairs while Joe was making his call. Then Joe came upstairs and headed for our UPSTAIRS – he wanted to use the washroom – His Tim Horton’s had gone right through him and he need to relieve himself.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO – there is a washroom in the basement – use that one I said. I was starting to get creeped out by the guy – I didn’t want him staring at our bedrooms and making comments. ICK!

When he went back down, I told Mark to tell him to leave. I didn’t care about the quote, I didn’t want him in my house any more – he needed to go.

Mark went downstairs and Joe said – I should be done in about 20 minutes – WHAT??? He had been there fro 50 minutes already!!!

Mark was getting to his wits end too – AND we were both getting hungry as it was now after 8:00 and still no dinner.

Mark went down to the basement and told Joe that he had to leave. Joe seems flustered. Then SUDDENLY when he was told to leave – he was able to pop out a number for us. Being as we are a young couple he will give us a $300 discount and do the refinishing for the bargain basement price of $1800!!! We almost fell over! I could buy a whole bedroom suite for that price!!

Needless to say, the next quote, we will ask how long it takes BEFORE they arrive at our house.

Live and learn!

The day that went from BAD to GREAT!

Last night I went to bed. Fell asleep pretty quickly. I usually do. However, it is when I wake up that I have trouble getting back to sleep. Last night was no exception. I woke up to pee. As I got back in bed and I was trying to get comfortable again, I "realized" that it was FRIDAY night and I didn't turn my alarm clock OFF. So I did - turn it off that is. This was about 2:00am.

I finally fell back to sleep. I woke up with a JOLT about 3:45am because I JUST realized that it was NOT Friday night, but instead ONLY MONDAY...sigh...You know it is going to be LONG week when...

Sadly I had to get up AGAIN and turn my alarm clock BACK ON. Getting back to sleep again after that was a chore. Eventually I did as the alarm DID wake me up promptly at 6:00...

Up I get. Get to work. Try to look alert. Try to stay awake. I was thinking - this is going to be a LONG day and not a particularity good one.

HOWEVER, then I got some news that made me jump up and down!! I am happy!!

TODAY IS A GREAT DAY!!

Bad Week??

I must have had a bad week. When I go back and read what I have written...

In my next life/next job - I am going to be a Driving Tester. One of those people who test people to get their drivers licences.

I can tell you - there will be a LOT less stupid and oblivious drivers on the road! A LOT LESS!

I am pissed...

I am on the Board of Directors for our condo corporation. In fact I have just been voted on to the board again for a 3rd term. This will be my 7th year on the board. I have been PRESIDENT for 6 of those 7 years.

I enjoy being on the board. I want to know where my condo fees are going. I want to have a say on what happens here. I want to be in 'the know'...

I however am on ONE member of the board. I cannot make a solo decision. Everything needs a majority from the members of the board. There are 5 members so that means that 3 of them have to agree to pass something. On my own I cannot do anything. I am a member of this community. When I am not 'working' on the board I am just a resident - just like everyone else.

Our corporation is run by a Property Management company. We pay them to do the 'dirty work' basically. We tell them what we want and they do it. They do a GREAT job. We do not hover. We have had NO REASON to ever question them.

Because I am a member of the board, I get MUCH unwanted conversation in my direction. I have people knowing on my door asking questions, wanting clarification for things, sharing their concerns etc. They stop me as I am getting out of my car, hands full of groceries. The corner me when I am running across to my sisters house in my comfy clothes for a gab. I am generally good with this. I know that it helps them to understand what is going on. It helps them that someone is listening and it helps them that someone is going to raise their issues to the board.

However - there is a point in time when i am SICK of it!! Like today for instance....

I came home from work to find a letter in my mailbox from a member of the community. This is not unusual, but today's letter pissed me off. I was personally attacked and the person who wrote the letter stated that as a member of the Board I should be setting an example and not be an offender of this particular NON violation. Not that I disagree, however there are circumstances as to WHAT she was referring to. What she is referring to is not in our rulebook. It is not set in stone. She is NOT the judge of me. I guarantee you that she did NOT put a letter in everyone else's mailbox who were offenders of this NON rule - guarantee it!

I am pissed. Mark is pissed. She does not know what she speaks of, yet we are both boiling inside.

I have contacted the Property manager. He will attend and pick up the offensive letter from my mailbox and craft a response to lady and send it from the corporation. I am DONE dealing with her. She has NEVER had anything nice to say EVER and all she ever does is bitch - hands are clean - I am DONE with her.

I am better now - just needed to get that off my chest...PHEW!!

Another Month Down..

Well today is our 16 month LID - I forgot!!!

I can't believe I forgot!! As others have said - I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing!

I certainly was distracted this weekend - so that is a good thing.

The fact that every month our daughter seems further away - is a bad thing.

I HOPE that at the end of this journey we have a daughter, but as the time CREEPS by at an INCREDIBLY slow pace - I am less and less sure.

On that happy note...I would also like to congratulate Dlolores & Shawn for keeping their sanity this long!! They are our friends and travel mates.

They are great missed greatly since their big move...

The Kids

Friday night we had the pleasure of having our niece and nephew overnight!

When we have them over, we try and do a fun activity with them. Friday was no expectation. We had craft night!

I wanted to share with you how exceptionally talented they are!! We provided a canvas and LOTS of materials so that they could hang their masterpieces up in their rooms.

Photo one is from Logan - he is just about 6 years old. Unfortunately this photo does not do the artwork any justice. You can't see the details of the gems in the sky, the sea shells on the doors, etc. - However - if you click on the picture, you should get a larger version.

Photo two is from Saige - she is just about 3 years old.

What budding artists do we have here???

Nice Surprise...

This morning I woke up and headed to my computer. As I sat down to see what had happened overnight, I went to Bloglines.

While on Bloglines, I had an updated feed for Seventh Diamond. I clicked on it and it said WELCOME TO OUR SATURDAY MORNING CHAT.

Saturday morning chat - I must be behind, as it is Sunday...AAAAHHHHHAAAAA - then I realized that it is in fact Saturday!!

Not only do I still have the rest of Saturday and Sunday off work, I am also lucky enough to have Monday as well!!! I still have more then a whole weekend in front of me! I am VERY excited about all that!

What a nice way to start the day!

I also went to THIS shop to see the items that had been posted for sale since the last time I checked...o.k. so I check a couple of times a day. She has the BEST stuff for sale! Go and check it out! Also - don't forget to check out the already sold items for more ideas on what she has had in the past.

Happy Easter to all those who celebrate it! ENJOY!

Home...

We are home safe and sound! Although I am happy to be home - I could have stayed away a little longer.

You know when you are away and the thing you look most forward to is getting in your own bed - well that wasn't the case this time. The KING size bed in the hotel was incredibly comfortable.

I was getting VERY used to the sunshine and the warmth.

I was enjoying NOT wearing a coat.

I was enjoying the time spent with GREAT friends.

I was enjoying our GORGEOUS hotel room with the wonderful view.

I was enjoying our playing in the waves in the Atlantic Ocean. I LOVE this action shot - with the wave CRASHING on my back and K1's big smile and blowing hair!

I was enjoying the LACK of snow!

However - home is where we are and it is time to get back into the routine and dream about our next get away...Do I hear Mexico calling???

Observations

People are stupid.

Cell phones are irritating.

My husband rocks.

People don't have a clue.

It is cold in Florida after the sun goes down.

Hot tubs are bliss.

People are oblivious.

The service industry has gone downhill.

I can walk a LONG way in flip flops.

Cameras don't last as long as they used to.

Boat rides are nice.

Pools SHOULD be in the sun.

5 minutes can mean 30 minutes.

Vacations pass by MUCH too quickly...

Here are some pictures of our view from our balcony.

K1 & K2 on their balcony from our balcony.

View of the intercoastal waterway from our balcony.

This is the house I want...sigh...one day!

A First...

Today was an exciting day!! Why you ask???

Today was the day that K1 entered a T*arget for the VERY FIRST TIME!!!

Now you can all pick yourselves up off the floor...I too was shocked!!

Being the good friend that I am - I felt the NEED to rectify the situation - and we did!!

We went TWICE today!!

Thursday, March 06, 2008

Part One

Step One - SUCCESS!!

We have successfully arrived in Buffalo with K1 & K2. The hotel leaves a bit to be desired.

They have run out of pillow cases - can you believe that - they have run out!!

However we are here for less then 12 hours and we will survive!

The alarm is set for 4:50am...sigh

BUT it will all be worth it when we arrive in FLORIDA tomorrow!!!!

15 Months down...AND VACATION!

Today is one of mixed emotions.

We have completed 15 months since we were LID - we are really not any closer to Pumpkin - perhaps another 24 months from now...IF I'm being optimistic.

We miss Dolores and Shawn who are also celebrating their 15 months today but they are so far away - but they will be home soon - I HOPE!

However - we have decided to NOT put our lives on hold and enjoy everything that the world has to offer - which is WHY - TODAY IS VACATION DAY!!!!

This afternoon we are out of here!

I can't wait!!!

Tuesday, March 04, 2008

TWO MORE SLEEPS!!

Two more sleeps until K1 & K2 and Mark and I go on VACATION!!

We are UBER excited to be getting away and having the opportunity to soak up some rays in sunny Florida!

We have certainly had enough of winter here in Canada and are ready to get some sand between our toes!

The plan is to bring the laptop - just don't know if we are going to have to time to blog while we are there!!

Did I mention that I was excited!!

Thanks to Tracey for house sitting while we are away!!

Montreal

As promised here are some pictures of our weekend in Montreal. Actually it is a video that was produced by 3D Productions and I pinched it off her site. There is no way that I could do a better job in presenting the weekend in pictures then she did.

That said - pictures are pictures and can't totally captivate the wonderfulness of the weekend and the FANTASTIC hosts that D&D are. We are so lucky to have them in our lives and as friends.

Sit back and enjoy the show.

I can't hear the music - I hope you can...if you can't view properly, you can visit The Creators and see AND hear from their site...

Talking

Tonight Mark and I went to the L*eafs game!

It was a GREAT game - they even WON!!!!

The man sitting behind me TALKED through the WHOLE game.

He knew EVERYTHING - AND I MEAN EVERYTHING!!

It was exhausting listening to him...

Happy Birthday Husband!!

Today is my hubby's birthday!!

I love him the best!

Enjoy your day!!

CUPCAKES for you this weekend!!

*****UPDATE***** Did ANYONE think to tell me that I spelled HAPPY wrong in the title of the post...I am embarrassed - I just noticed it now and corrected it...

BAD BLOGGER

I am a bad blogger...

I have fallen off the blogger wagon...

It was pointed out to me tonight by K1 that I don't post anymore...

She is correct...

I am going to get a post together about our amazing time in Montreal this past weekend with our great friends D&D. I am just a little slow.

I am going to do my best to post more frequently - starting now...

A few weeks ago, I was adamant about getting on the treadmill kick starting things...I lasted a day...

We will see how this goes!

Sigh...

Here is my bitch session:

We have had LOTS of snow recently - last week and this week. The snow is NOT a surprise. The news was reporting it everywhere. EVERYONE knew it was coming.

I - as the conscientious employee - sets my alarm earlier so that I have time to clean off my car and drive through the snow and the traffic to get to work at my normal time. I make the effort.

There are many in my office who DON'T change their routine and continually show up 20-40 minutes late. They don’t shorten their lunch. They don't stay later at the end of the day.

These people are also smokers. So not only do they show up late for work, they take MULTIPLE breaks in the morning AND the afternoon to smoke.

As far as I can tell - other then the health concerns for smoking, there are no consequences for their actions.

Why do I bother to get up early to get to work on time to do my job?? WHY??

Here is me who stays late and worries when I take 5 minutes longer for lunch.

I truly think that these people don't even think that they are doing anything wrong!!

Apparently it doesn't matter what time you show up. It doesn't matter how many breaks you take and it doesn't matter what you do while you are sitting at your desk holding your head up while staring at the internet!! AAGGHH!!!

To top things off - the boss might send everyone home early because of the weather. Well I start work at 7:00 and other people in the department are SUPPOSED To start at 8:00, but might show up at 8:40 - well at 2:45 he sends everyone home - GEE THANKS - 15 minutes for me and I was the ONLY one who showed up in time in the first place. So, while I worked 7hours 45 minutes, they worked 6 hours!!!

It is frustrating as I work in a union environment and everyone gets the same pay - no mater how much work you accomplish.

Sigh…

14 Months...

Today is our 14 month LID...yeah??

I know that 14 are behind us and we don't have to do them again, but I would really like to think that we are 1/3 the way there and I just can't say that yet...sigh

Wow - I am being a downer, however, it is hard to get too excited about something that you are not sure is ever going to happen and IF it is to happen, you really don't know when.

On to better topics - Dolores and Shawn - HAPPY 14 MONTHS to you! Thanks for being there to share these with us. You have certainly made the journey MUCH more bearable!

Happy Anniversary H!!!

Four years ago today, on a beach in Cuba, Mark and I were married.

It was a beautiful warm and sunny day. We had sand between our barefoot toes. Sigh...

The last four years have been FANTASTIC. I couldn't ask for a better husband. I am the luckiest woman in the world!

More Australia Pictures

Here are some more pictures that we took in Australia. I FINALLY got them all downloaded on the new computer after the crash! Thank goodness they were still on the camera!

The first four are of the area surrounding Hobart in Tasmania.

These next two are of SOUTHBANK in the city of Brisbane in Queensland. There is a man made beach right in the city - very cool.

After Brisbane we headed to Newcastle to stay with some friends. Take took us to the Hunter Valley - a wine region. We went to these beautiful gardens - wow - this synopsis of our trip is shrinking and shrinking!! LOL

Then we were off to Sydney so that we could head to Manly Beach (that is where we saw J*nn Ard*n).

I am sure that you all recognize this famous landmark!!

These last pictures are of Manly Beach - one of my VERY favourite places in Australia. I can't even explain how wonderful it is. Sigh...I miss it.

So that about sums up our trip very briefly. We had a fantastic time and we were very lucky to get to experience that again! I am thinking it is going to be a LONG time before we get back there again!

Thanks for reading and enjoying the pictures! Now to plan for the next trip...

Sigh...

13 Month LID

Today we celebrate 13 months past in our wait for Pumpkin.

Optimism for this wait has gone out the window. This is NOT what we signed up for and trying to keep positive is getting REALLY difficult!

But today - we will try and focus on the good part of this wait and that is the lunch we are going to share with Dolores and Shawn this afternoon to celebrate our 13 months!

Touring Tasmania

O.k. back to the trip and the requested pictures!

We had a few days in our camper touring around Tasmania. It really is a beautiful state. We had an 'animal' day that we went to a wildlife park and saw some animals up close and personal!

But on to the pictures as that is what you all want to see!

The view from our campsite...sigh - it was pretty!

My Hero!

Yesterday, after reading about my computer troubles,
Dolores called to see if Shawn could help out. I am sure that she could have heard my sigh of relief at her house!

THAT NIGHT - Dolores and Shawn came over and equipped with an old computer and a portable drive. After a quick gab, Shawn got to work. He plugged the 'thingy' in the 'whatchamacallit' and made the 'whatsit' work. In no time at all, my computer files were being downloaded to the portable drive - where they now sit.

Some of the information was lost (though I am not exactly sure what), but the majority of my pictures are intact!!

I actually slept better last night knowing that everything was going to be o.k!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH SHAWN for rescuing me and precious pictures!

NOW...

My task is to now go and find a new computer in which to transfer these files to.

I am so sad...

I am so sad...

On Christmas Eve I woke up and was heading to my computer and noticed that it had crashed in the night. It was 'looping'. Trying to reboot.

It is now 3 days later and it is STILL trying to reboot. I am not thinking that it ever will (if there is someone close who can help - please let me know)

I am sad...

I really did keep meaning to back up my pictures.
